That old bullseye shooting needed to go. The new program gives credit for shot placement but adds the degree of difficulty by wearing armor and using unconventional shooting positions.
Good for them. Train to be better not just to train.

What do you mean by, "Unconventional Shooting Positions?" How is the degree of difficulty elevated when they now use sights as opposed to the old steel sights?

SFC Domingo M. - they are no longer “known distance” ranges and shooters have no “slow fire” targets or flags to determine wind or soft caps for shooting. Shooters must self determine range/wind and engage timed targets from typical combat shooting positions and are scored on engagement time and where the hits are while wearing the kit they go to war in.
The Army has changed the course of fire as well and it now is no-longer standing supported and prone supported but includes high/medium/low barricades and standing or squatting unsupported but they are still pop up timed targets. More magazine changes and alibis are gone…aka if you screw up your mag change you are on your own and have to re-qual if you fail to make the cut.
Magnified optics do not make you are better shooter; they help you see the target; red dots help you be faster but do not magnify your field of view; both require you to have the fundamentals of shooting.
I wish the Marine well. Absolutely no reason to limit yourself to just iron sights in 2024.
