23-24 March 1944: RAF Flt. Sgt. Nicholas Alkemade, tail gunner aboard a 115 Sqdn. Lancaster B.III, survived a nearly 20,000-foot fall without a parachute after his bomber was shot down near Berlin. The accompanying painting memorializes the event.
