I am glad to see the comments about fry bread. It was a necessity for survival but it is not original indigenous food. In fact IMO, it has added to obesity problems.
In my wife's family, fry bread was considered a treat.
Ancients in the southwest dined mostly on beans, squash, and maize (corn) and perhaps a few animals from the area. (deer, antelope, and smaller critters)

Living here in Oklahoma the wife has a taste for Indian Tacos made with fry bread.
