Treating the grenade badge like a plague

Why is it highly discouraged by so many to stop wearing the grenade badge once you get to your first unit? When one is seen wearing the grenade badge it is frowned upon and treated like a plague by so many? Since when isn’t the grenade badge cool to wear?

The only problem with the grenade badge is you have to qualify every six months. I have never seen a unit that does a grenade qualification. So many people forget about it. And you know how some people hate on others when they don't have something that you do.
