Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's tag-free Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Curiousity: Sol 3048." A 'sol' is a Martian day, and the rover Curiousity began counting days back on April 5, 2012. This image mosaic was assembled from images captured on March 2, 2021...Sol 3048 for Curiousity (today is Sol 3069). Curiosity is about the size of a MINI Cooper car. It is equipped with 17 cameras, a robotic arm, and a number of other laboratory-like tools and instruments. The rover has spent over 8 years on the Martian surface and it is still operating properly and continues (with Perseverance) its mission to study and understand the Red Planet.
If you missed yesterday's post, I do apologize. It seems I can only tag two members at a time now (and of course that change came without warning), so I have elected to not tag anyone for the time being. If you include at least one of the topics I use here (NASA, Space, Science, Photography, Astronomy) in the Interests section of your RP profile, the APOD should continue to show up in your feed. Not too sure of the #baizuo logic that concluded I was abusing the tagging system, but that's the way things are. Should you be kind enough to visit and comment, please tag one or two of your contacts so others can continue to enjoy these daily NASA updates with us.

Thank you my friend Maj William W. 'Bill' Price for posting the NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for Thursday, March 25, 2021`entitled "Curiousity: Sol 3048."

APOD Background
"Explanation: Before Perseverance there was Curiosity. In fact, the Curiosity rover accomplished the first sky crane maneuver touchdown on Mars on August 5, 2012. March 2, 2021 marked Curiosity's 3,048th martian day operating on the surface of the Red Planet. This 360 degree panorama from sol 3048 is a mosaic of 149 frames from Curiosity's Mastcam above the rover's deck. It includes 23 frames of icy, thin, high clouds drifting through the martian sky. The cloudy sky frames were recorded throughout that martian day and are digitally stitched together in the panoramic view. Near center is a layered and streaked Mont Mercou. The peak of central Mount Sharp, rising over 5 kilometers above the floor of Gale Crater, is in the distant background on the left."

Excellent image created from photos taken by the Curiosity Rover then "stitched" together in sequence via an image editing program to form a detailed panorama... Thanks for today's APOD, Maj William W. 'Bill' Price & good morning!
