Here's another "Webb" First. The July 14th APOD is titled "Webb's Southern Ring Nebula." The Southern Ring Nebula lies about 2,500 light years away in the southern constellation Vela. According to Wikipedia, The Southern Ring Nebula was selected as one of the five cosmic objects observed by the James Webb Space Telescope as part of the release of its first official science images on July 12, 2022.
I'll post the Hubble Legacy Archive image of the Southern Ring Nebula in a separate comment. The difference between the two images is astounding. I no longer doubt the printed reports of researchers in tears over what they are seeing. I wonder what we will learn next?

Thank You for sharing this. The telescope has sent back a lot of unusual information and pictures. I’m sure a lot of them can’t be explained. The new frontier. I just wish they’d finish exploring the oceans on earth:-)) Doc
