Worried about spying and tensions with China, Midwest states want to limit who can buy farmland

Legislation is being proposed at the federal and state level to restrict foreign ownership of farmland, especially by China. The scrutiny comes after a Midwestern project was scuttled by military concerns and the flight of a Chinese spy balloon across the U.S.
A proposed corn mill processing plant was expected to be a big economic boon for Grand Forks, North Dakota, bringing hundreds of jobs.
Then the U.S. Air Force weighed in at the request of North Dakota’s two U.S. senators — finding the Chinese-owned project’s proximity to a military base made it a "significant threat to national security."
The city council voted the project down soon after.

Those who vote Democrat voted for this. Of course, it is a matter of national security and what we have going on is an out-of-touch O'Biden Administration that is selling this country out and laundering the money. Of course, these things were known about Biden when he was running, but the media downplayed it and Democrat voters ignored the obvious and voted for him anyway -- despite the fact he was cognitively challenged at the time and should have been answering investigators about his:
* illegal spying on the Trump campaign;
* groping of women and children and allegations of sexual assault by several women including Tara Reade;
* mishandling of classified material which, as VP, he had no power to declassify;
* income that he failed to claim on his taxes from his influence peddling and money laundering family business that we were told was Russian disinformation -- except that it wasn't.
Biden is nothing more than a willing accomplice to fraud and he is the beneficiary of a stolen election. Biden does not run his staff; they tell him what to do. He is a puppet and beholden to the special interests (foreign and domestic) that helped him defraud the public. Biden is still working for his boss Obama, who is pulling the strings on our Democratic leadership in Congress from a SCIF installed inside his DC mansion which has walls around it, unlike our Southern border which is wide open and across which have enough illegals crossed in the time Biden has been squatting in the White House (approx 7.5 million that we know about plus ? that we don't know about) to fill the state of Nebraska approximately four times over. You can pretty well imagine how these illegals will be voting because they came for the incentives promised to them by the Democrats and to hook up their self-interest -- at OUR expense! Their votes have been bought by declining to prosecute their criminal trespasses and other criminal activity and send them back.

..."“I wouldn't say that there is no issue with foreign ownership,” she said. “But the ways that it is being talked about are, in my opinion, very much for political purposes, and not really because there's all these national security issues that are coming up.”
She said the national attention on Chinese ownership of agricultural land is taking away from the fact that investors, including those in the U.S., are driving up farmland prices.
“The focus on this issue obscures the issues that many of us are trying to work on on improving land access for beginning (farmers) and people of color farmers and people who've been denied access to land in America,” she said.
In order to keep the number of U.S. farms from slipping further, Miller said she hopes Congress will provide more support for small farmers as the farm bill comes up for renewal this year."

I am surprised that any conservative would support the government telling a person who they can or cannot sell their property to.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Ohhh, I don't know. Probably the guy who said this: "I am surprised that any conservative would support the government telling a person who they can or cannot sell their property to."
Why don't you tell us who that is. Did someone hack your account?

Capt Jeff S. - I stand by my earlier comment. Most conservatives I know adamantly oppose the federal government getting involved in anything like the sale of personal property. That is not "selling out this country."
If you are a property owner looking to sell and someone offers you substantially more for your property than you are asking, are you going to refuse?
