No. Driving is an American tradition. Soon we will just be put to sleep and our brain activity will be all the is left of us. Just no.

Maj Marty Hogan I agree that driving is a tradition, but like the article says, a lot of people today don't even have a license which again leads me to believe that this technology is aimed at the urban areas.

LTC (Join to see) - If it weren't for the Fast & Furious franchise, I think there'd be no detectable interest in "car culture" among today's 15-25 year olds whatsoever. I mean that. As it is, among that age group, its not "Ford vs Chevy" its "Android vs Apple".

What do you think about the second and third order effects of this. Personally I would love to see the day we climb into a curtained cube and relax with a book while enroute.

LTC (Join to see) - Disconcerting, True! Put quite a Few People Out of Work. Definitely will have to look for New Occupations for those Folks. As far as Reading a Book, Been There Done That. 3 years in London, 3 Years in DC. I Love Relaxing, Reading and or Sleeping on Public Transport. Lived at the End of the Line for the Central Line in London and the Engineers woke Me up more than Once when I got Home.

I think the self-driving car idea is going to make things much worse. First, these systems work great when conditions are good. Throw in rain, snow, compact snow and ice, bad to non-existent striping, hills with curves, narrow (1 lane) roads, and Asian style traffic and see if these systems don't choke to death. All the self-driving car will do is atrophy skills to the point where people are more dangerous when the first drop of rain hits the pavement.
