When you consider that these world powers were using technologically advanced explosives and weapons built to be efficient killing machines, it's no surprise that World War II includes some of the bloodiest battles ever fought. We've listed some of the most significant here, in no particular order.
Keep in mind, the exact number of casualties in these battles includes not only the number of dead, but also injured, sick and missing. These numbers are also often disputed, as they often vary among reputable sources.

My Uncle Wally was part of D-day and became an instant sergeant as their were only a few that survived the beach. He said the sky was black with planes, the ocean was red with blood and you could not hit the beach without stepping on a body. He came out of WWII as a SFC. He spent many years waking up in the middle of the night with nightmares, sweating up a storm according to my Aunt Irene

My Late in law, Salvatore LaMacchia made the beachhead landing via landing craft on Okinawa on April 1st 1945. (many years later on April 1st 1968 I arrived in Vietnam) My Father in Law had already made to beachhead land on Guam as wel land anther Japanese held island between the two. He held the rank of SSgt when He received His honorable discharge after the close of WW2. He had told Me a few things about that experience He hadn't even told My Mother in Law but He felt comfortable talking to Me about it. The fact I'd served in a combat zone I guess helped make Him comfortable although i can't compare anything I'd done with the Hell He survived.
