The only thing I am finding that has the name Black Tigers was an elite suicide commando unit of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a militant Tamil separatist organization in Sri Lanka.

There was a Tiger Force, a LRRP unit within the 101st ABN during Vietnam. Those boys had some serious controversy attached to them.

Two "Black Tiger" units come to mind...

In Vietnam during the early 1950's there was a Commando unit led by Frenchman Roger Vandenberghe that was known as the fearsome “Black Tigers.”

In the 1960's during the Vietnam war the 44th Vietnamese Rangers were also referred to as Black Tigers. Famous among them was Ho Thi Que, also known as the Tiger Lady of the Mekong Delta. She was a master sergeant of the South Vietnamese 44th Ranger Battalion, a field medic, and a nurse. Ho Thi Que was famous for her bravery and courage, earning the nickname "Madame Death" from her Viet Cong adversaries. She was decorated for valour three times. Amongst her fellow rangers she was known for her ferocity, but also for her compassion; she would physically attack any soldier she found looting after battle, but would also comfort and tend to wounded or dying soldiers, often risking her life to reach them on the battlefield. Sometimes she would shave her head to express her grief at the loss of her fellow rangers. She also showed deep compassion for the families of the dead men, fighting for them to receive the benefits due them or lending them money to enable them to become financially independent. She was a recognisable figure on the battlefield. The Chicago Tribune noted that "she fought beside the men with a pair of .45 automatics strapped to her hips and wearing a polished steel helmet emblazoned with a tiger's head. The Tiger Lady was an inspirational figure, often at the front of the battle with the men, charging through paddy fields, spurring her fellow soldiers on to victory. Sadly, in early November 1965 She was shot and killed by her husband during an argument. He claimed self defence, saying she had attacked him with a knife in a fit of jealousy over his affair with another woman.

Lots of people have "information" on super clandestine operations that were conducted during the Vietnam war. However, the vast majority of them do not have a clue as to what really happened. Not saying this is the case with your gentleman friend... My term for them is "TS Intel Wannabes". They spout all kinds of informational theories just to appear to be "in-the-know". Normally, the DIMS Theory works on their information - Does It Make Sense? I was assingrd to one of the highest classified units in Vietnam - MACVSOG-CCS (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group-Command and Control South). I also was assigned to a highly classified Special Operations unit (Post Vietnam) in Laos (Project 404) While I don't know everything, I know enough to spot BS when I hear it. My DIMS Theory tells me no unit existed that had the mission of killing civilian Americans!

1SG Dean Mcbride (MPER) (CPHR) - So many stories and rumors came out of that war. Many are very doubtful.

Agreed! And most of them tend to set off my BS radar within a few seconds of the narration...
