Operation Atlantic Resolve is the name for the bolstering of U.S. troops in Europe to help defend its NATO allies after Russia illegally annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
Biden ordered that the number of soldiers called up cannot exceed 3,000 total members at one time with only 450 being called up from the individual ready reserve mobilization category.
The individual ready reserve category refers to trained soldiers who may have recently left active duty but still have a contractual commitment to their branch of the U.S. Armed Forces or who have moved from active duty to a reserve component but have not been assigned to a unit.
The Defense Department said last June it has deployed 20,000 additional forces in Europe since the beginning of the war in Ukraine last February, bringing the number of American troops in Europe to more than 100,000 service members."

As you noted this is an annual event. As The JOC Team Chief for the European Command from 2014 through 2016 we had Reserve and Guard support every year. This is nothing new, groundbreaking, or provocative. Just easy PR and Media points.

Yea I don't buy as more reserves deploy more often these day to call on just recent transition SM from active to reserves. Also reserves/guard head that way yearly

I'm not a fan of Biden. He's a senile fossil who's just a muppet for his handlers. However, as the European Command JOC Team Chief from 2014 to 2016. I can say this is nothing new. We brought Reservist alongside of active duty personnel to support this Operation every year. Why his handlers have chosen to make a big deal out of something that happens each year. I can only speculate its to create the appearance of taking action. While doing absolutely nothing. It's believable as action since the general public doesn't know better. But he's not doing anything groundbreaking, original, or particularly brilliant for that matter. Just a sleight of hand.

MAJ Ken Landgren - :) Thanks, for making me chuckle. As usually you respond from the hip, deflect and interject things that aren't part of the actual topic. Go back and read the Article Maj Patterson posted; " Biden authorizes military to order up reservist for active duty in Europe." Followed by SGT Lee adding; "Biden said; the move was to add to the effectiveness of Operation Atlantic Resolve." What's beyond your understanding is the details or Goals of "Operation Atlantic Resolve." You should get on the "Atlantic Resolve" web page and the V Corp web page, for that matter (since you interjected then into the post), and check out their UCLASS mission statements, goals, current press releases, current mission, and current Twitter post. Both Atlantic Resolve and V Corps pages have enough to get your head out of the fog. I know both missions intimately. Nothing you post or Biden's says in regards to this order changes the details of Atlantic Resolve. V Corps standing mission is to support Allied, NATO posture exercises... and its return to Europe happens every year. Staying longer to support exercises doesn't mean were going to be fighting in the current conflict or sending troops to battle Russia. I think even you know that would be the beginning of WWIII. This order is just a sleight of hand and PR stunt. You could post more intelligently if you stayed on topic. Operation Atlanta Resolve happens every year and this particular topic and subject has nothing to do with bolstering US ARMY Europe for Ukraine.
If you want to get off topic and talk about Biden's actual successes this week. I'll give the fossil credit, he surprisingly may have actually pulled off a big one last weekend by getting the Turks to commit to accepting Sweden into NATO. His handlers were brilliant in this peice of foreign politics. He doesn't have the brain power to pull it off. But, that is a big "V" his handlers delivered him. They finally did their job. One worthy of congratulations.

MAJ Ken Landgren - (｀O ´)୨ Yawn... your usual strawman deflections and totally off topic response. Trump? This topic has nothing to do with him. You always forget I'm an Independent. I could care less about either of those old farts. I hope they both get primaried and we get two different candidates to choose from. It's about time we had someone more centric and willing to actually come to the middle and fix what's going on in our country. Particularly, someone who represents the majority of us in the middle. You Democrats and Republicans are the minority Parties. You can't win an elections without us. Both your parties are just two sides of the same coin and the proverbial two-headed snake pretending to battle itself. The only thing that keeps both your parties in power is, the center does not have large common representation. If Independents all came together under one banner Republicans nor Democrats would win another election. Fortunately, for you, we don't have that one common banner. However, times are changing. Maybe the future will see the US political world turn. I'm pushing for A STRONG 3RD PARTY!!!!

I guess the question I have, is this order simply the response for what we used to call request for forces and authorities to bolster troops by more traditional means? From an outside perspective this sounds like call up people no longer on active duty. From a former inside perspective it also could mean that this allows for a MOB order of current reserve units to augment these forces. My guess is that a MOB order of Army reserve and National Guard will be mobilized at first. Any determined plus up would probably result in an IRR call up, but I would see this as unlikely, except maybe a few people in some key specialties needed. If that were to happen they would most likely pull from the most recent separated. After a while I would have to figure many people would be no longer proficient in their previous military job and would require going back to some formal training. I am simply guessing, so I suppose we will have to see what this entails. If I had to guess they move forward current active troops while the call ups will be in training status.
