Hollywood depictions have long helped inform America's understanding of the Vietnam War, whether it's portraying the traumatized war veterans from The Deer Hunter playing out ugly jungle warfare in Platoon or documenting Captain Willard's journey upriver to face Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now.
But there was usually one thing missing from these Vietnam War stories: the Vietnamese perspective.

I may watch this. It would indeed be a move away from out typical war movies.
I did like the interaction of the commander of the North Vietnamese troops in "We Were Soldiers Once" film. Maybe this one can show even better get the other side of the story.
Note:
No, I am not supporting communism nor North Vietnam. I just like to get both sides of a story.

I think you will find this shows just how complicated the entire situation was over there. There was a lot going on that had nothing to do with us, per se.

We have only gone through something like this twice: Revolutionary War, and the Civil War (although you could nitpick and add the French and Indian War, the War of 1812, and the Expansion West with the Indian Wars.) But to fight in a War where both side lived in the same place...is rare for us. Yet in Vietnam, our Soldiers fought at the same time that the South and North were fighting to unite into one country.
Our soldiers came over fought, and left. The Villages and people who worked and lived in those villages did not go home. They were home. I knew several Vietnamese who lived through both the French Occupation and then our involvement. And they just wanted to be left alone. They weren't Democratic or Communist, they were just folks trying to live their lives.
So yeah, there is a much different perspective to this Series. And you can find people in his situation all over the world- right now.

I will listen to this a little bit later... Tis a busy day in Katy, Texas... LOL However, most of what I have listened to by NPR, it was a little bit to liberal and one sided for my taste. I will let you know what I think of this one!

Please do, Top. I don't think you will find it "to liberal" I think, having read his book before- it will give you a different perspective. There was more going on in Vietnam then our involvement and in their History Books we are just another transient war. Their History goes back to nine hundred years of conflict with Korea/China. So we are just a footnote. I would Love to hear your take on it, because of your experience and expertise.
