Hello,
I was "direct commissioned" into the US Army Reserve almost a year ago. I have been reading about psyop for the last couple of months and am very interested in becoming a psyop Officer in the Army Reserve. Can you guys answer some of my questions?
1)Can direct commission Officers in one of the specialty branches (JAG, Chaplain,...) in the Army Reserve transfer and be PSYOP Officers in the same component?
2)If yes, what is the process? If not, is there any other option?
3) How is PSYOP selection for reserve Officers?
Any information you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

One of the best ways to actually get those answers is to contact Branch and ask them. JAG Branch will probably tell you that you would have to serve at a Group HQ as a JAG. But worth asking them to see what they say and what possibilities may be. It also depends on where you are living at as well as where is the closest unit.
As for PSYOP officers - need to be a 1LT (P) or a CPT to become a PSYOP officer. Part of the issue then becomes will your branch let you go and for you to become a PSYOP officer. (ie dual branched) Branch has to pay for the course - and there are fewer seats. It does not stop a Chaplain or a JAG serving in a PSYOP unit from taking the other training (Deception, OPSEC, IO planning) classes - but money does make it or break it for PSYOP course.
If you live near a PSYOP CO or BN - would encourage you to contact them and set up a meeting or call with the commander and talk with them on it. You still have a while before you could do anything - and they can help fill in some of the details along with what Branch tells you.

My info is ancient history: I was commissioned through OCS at Ft Benning in Jan 1967 as a 2LT in the Infantry (MOS 1542 at that, now 11A).
First post was to Ft Bragg and the 3SFG(Ann).
The 3d Grp transferred me to the 2d Psyop Grp, 13th Ann. I was then sent to the Psyop Officers Course (also at Ft Bragg) and came out of that with a secondary MOS of 9305. I then was
sent to USARV as a 1542, but HQ USARV Assignments Office noticed the 9305 in my records and I was assigned to HQ 1st Cav Division G5 staff section, where I was assigned the position of Asst Psyop. Officer, and remained in that position throughout the 12 month tour of duty, developing and conducting Psyop on the ground and in helicopters in support of Division and Allie’s’ combat operations in the northern provinces of Thua Thien and Quang Tri. (Our Division Base Camp was 11 miles north of the city of Hue’ when the NVA and VC launched their Tet Offensive.) I enjoyed that year with the Cav and wouldn’t trade those memories for anything.
