My sister’s house bordered the Amish area down in Ohio. And they would laugh at this.

And then pull a boat out to the lake with horses and go fishing for real.

SPC James Neidig - Can't say I disagree with anything you said, except the word "better". Simpler, by far. Community, way better. But I will take Modern Medicine, technology and travel - and learn how to merge that with their ideals.

They Think Their Life Is Better By Being Simpler.
I Have The Advantage Of Living With Modern Technology And Medicine And I Also Have The Knowledge Of The Amish/Mennonites To Be Able To Survive Without All Of The Modern Technology.
One Other Thing The Amish/Mennonite Community Around Here Had A Very Low Rate Of COVID Infections And That Was Without The Vaccine. No One That I Know Of Got Any Of The Covid Vaccines And I Know Of No Deaths From Covid In The Community.
I Tested Positive 3 Times And All 3 Times Was Not Worse Than A Bad Case Of The Flu .

I had the opportunity to be part of an Amish barn raising in Wisconsin when I was on leave after I came back from my overseas duty. They welcomed me to help! It was an experience I'll never forget. It's ingrained in my brain. Out of respect for their community I didn't take any photo. I even got to take a young Amish lady to the store in my brand new Chevy! I was always under the impression that they didn't ride in cars. She explained to me it was ok; they just couldn't own one. She was amazed at the air conditioning in the car and the stick shift! Really sweet girl. At mid-day I ate lunch with her and her family. They asked me a lot of questions about the military. The whole day was an experience of a lifetime.

We Have The Same Religious Beliefs But Also Believe Service To God And Country Are Equal.
I Have Family That Are Amish And I Am Accepted As A Family Member But Have Not Been Banished Due To Accepting Modern Ways

That is so wonderful. Doing your Duty at so many levels, and keeping the communities linked - that is also admirable. What an amazing set of life skills.

If you've been around Amish areas it makes perfect sense.
