Active duty vs contractor support

The shift to contractor support of active duty has led to the force structure we have today. The staffing levels are adjusted as the contracts are let to assume many of the duties that have been prior traditional military positions.

Question: Do the use of contractor support and smaller active duty force size have negative or positive impact on the mission of the military and readiness? Can you give examples to show your point of view?
