Who has cameras in the SSQs? At the entrances, hallways and stairwells? I would think with the sexual assaults and other acts in the SSQ, this would be the go to mitigation factor for at least new SSQ buildings.  As a leader I can only make checks at random times, I can't protect my Soldiers every hour of everyday. So I was wondering if there was a push to make the barracks more secure with cameras or not.

We have the cameras in our barracks and schoolhouse. In addition to that we have doors that auto lock be hide the soldier, but they are only on the female side of the barracks and our female soldier state that they are being singled out since the males don't have those doors. I have corrected them many times and counseled one who called them rape doors.
I endorse the cameras but the alarms on their windows and the "SHARP DOORS" are to much and making the female soldier feel like prisoners.

Our barracks have auto locking to the outside doors on all the entrances, they can leave when they want, but they need a key to access the door. What some Soldiers do is prop the door open with a small rock or something for their friends, smoke breaks, running back and forth from the car, ect. Now the doors can they leave or are they kind of locked in. In a training situation, I would say, sorry you joined the Army and we have to keep you safe, you would much rather have it and not need than need it and not have it.

SFC Goentzel,

We had cameras inside and outside of our barracks at Fort Gordon.  They covered all hallways, entrances, and most of the outside areas around and in between buildings.  They weren't intrusive at all since they only covered areas where everyone should be fully dressed.

I think it's an excellent preventive measure that should be installed in most SSQ buildings.

Thank you, I was thinking about this because I went to visit my wife on CQ last night and had to secure the same door twice. If Soldiers will not take the proper steps to protect each other then I guess it's time to start pushing the camera system.
