I'm looking for some tax assistance that doesn't cost a lot. I think I need more than just a tax preparer because one of my issues is with back taxes.

I agree that you need something more than just a tax preparer. Any time there is a back tax issue you should seek out the advice of a practicing, licensed, and reputable advisor. While there is a cost it is cheaper and better than the alternative.

You can go to tax court or district court to argue your taxes. The Tax court is run by tax experts so if you don't know what you are doing, you can really get screwed in this area and lose the case. The other option is district court. Here the judges and jury are not tax experts so you could possibly win but need a good lawyer.

Another option is just paying the back taxes you owe. For each month of taxes you don't pay back, the IRS will charge .05 per month of your understatement. Also, if you made a NOL this year and owe no taxes, you can only carryback losses for 2 years but it depends on the type of activity.

For CPA firms, you have your boutique shops which you could go to or a national financial advisor chain like liberty mutual or your banks financial advisor partner. Whatever you do don't go to primerica because they are a glorified pyramid scheme.

PO3 Shaun Taylor not 100% sure if you mean tax preparation information for next year, or something else. The below link has some good info on that. If you're looking for something else that would relate more to purchasing a home, let me know and I'll try to answer that.

PO3 Shaun Taylor I may still be able to help but I'm not exactly sure what you're after. Are you looking at VA loans and things like that? I'm just not sure how the tax part fits in.

I was wondering the same when I read the question. Without understanding the question, not sure what kind of advice to offer.
