I see day after day Soldiers being told they have to run back and forward to different location at their own gas expense. Not everything is in walking distance, or being able to be there in the short time periods given.

No....where does this stop?

Should the Army pay extra for haircuts because you have to get them once a week (or longer)?

Should the Army pay extra for washing uniforms because they want you to present a professional appearance?

How about razors? Most Soldiers have to shave each day.

This is why Soldiers get basic pay.

Take $20.oo of your clothing allowance and buy some clippers. A mighty fine is easy enough for anyone to accomplish once a week.

Basic pay: where does it stop, here pretty soon if its not happening already, i'll have to purchase my own copy paper to print out official memorandums.
The mission being what it is, is fairly relative, were it to fail for something as simple as the command can't resource travel it wouldn't look too well would it? Oh look, there's of people I outrank, now I can't in good conscience ORDER them to utilize their personal property for my objective, but I can ask them to, and if they agree its better not to fail overall then all is well.
Isn't basic pay about to be eaten into with lowering BAH rates anyhow? (proposed)

If it is a constant ongoing requirement to use your own vehicle for official business, I say yes. I currently work in Cheyenne Mountain; individuals who have to attend meetings at Peterson AFB, are authorized to submit monthly vouchers for reimbursement of mileage traveled to and from Cheyenne Mountain and Peterson AFB (approx. 32 miles round trip).

Seriously the Army cannot nor will not provide for in and around mileage in the local area. Also, I don't think they should be expected to. Also, "When it is determined to be to the Government's advantage" what is the advantage and huge expense of filtering all these requests. There is a certain implied task with all jobs.

I do think there are some things leaders can do to mitigate the travel of their Soldiers. However , we get expenses far beyond our civilian counterparts - I have seen 34 years of my fathers career and know as part of a major corporation we treat our Soldiers and families far better.

Also, realize ever Branch treats it Soldiers, Airmen etc... different. My Soldiers lived in the same barracks while another branches Soldiers received substandard housing allowance - but that is another story.

Again as stated while it would be nice than what other expenses and where do we stop?

SSG,
Why not? how would it get funded? For a Soldier still in the military they would not see it any different. It would be a good idea do not get me wrong. But if you pay attention to the sequester and the budgeting issues that are going on this is not going to happen. When you retire and see it from my perspective it does not make since! And thank you I will follow this thread it is a matter of my opinion! And yes I support anything for our Soldiers ! But it is not economically sound in our time of Government!

Secondly I mean no negativity on your part SSG ! The Army needs NCO's that think out of the box! Even if some of us do not agree with this idea! So I commend you on starting this thread! Even though I was blunt on my initial comment.
