Uncovered shoulders should not be an issue as long as your dress is of good taste and design.

Thank you. Just want to be respectful. Very nervous and it is strapless, but tastefull and picked by another veteran

PFC Pamala (Hall) Foster - You should be good then. But keep this advice in mind....Put the dress on and stand in front of a mirror......if you immediately think that the dress looks inappropriate for a Military Ball, then it probably is.

Thank you SSG. I am wearing opera gloves, a white wrap, pearl choker, and making sure that I look like a true lady. I am just so nervous cause I am going to the Marine Corps Ball as a guest/invited veteran. I wore this gown to a pageant and it was deemed very appropriate by a veteran in the audience as well, but I want to be graceful and respectful, but insted I am nervous.

PFC Pamala (Hall) Foster dress like you are going to go somewhere that your grandmother is going to see you, and you should be fine.

As far as a corsage, ask around and see if the other women who will be attending the ball are going to wear one. If so, find one that will match your dress.

Well, the formal is July 29 and I am one very nervous woman. Everyone here is being great to help me. The Ball I am worried about is when I hopefully go back to Fort Bliss for a possible Unit reunion and seeing the men and women I served with. I changed my gown selection-not strapless like I planned, but off the shoulder and I got my mom's approval (she's a southern woman and a beauty at 78 years beautiful). You and Major Jason Johnson just let me know I am on the right track-8 years since I attended a ball/formal like this.

I'd have to freshen up on protocol - but I believe if you're wearing a sleeveless/shoulder revealing dress at a ball, it's best to have a "shawl" or something to cover your shoulders until the formal function is over (usually the dinner and head table speech). After that, you can then "unwind" and remove the shawl.

That being said - my formal ball/dinner protocol memory is a bit rusty.
