Hello everyone, I am PV2 Matthews and I've recently been projected to be stationed in Korea attached to 65th medical and I was wondering does anyone have experience being there? Like if they enjoyed it (I think I'll enjoy it as my firs duty station) or if they were able to extent the tour from one year to two years?

Korea is what you make it. A lot of people don't understand that until they've been there. I can't guarantee how good your unit's morale will be, but there is always something to do, whether it be work or pleasure. Just don't waste a great opportunity sitting in your barracks room all 12 months. It is a great experience, I promise. I didn't do much, but I had a great time and would love to go back and do it all over again.

In general, Korea is as good or as bad as you make it.

Fast paced, one big exercise a quarter. Rest varies by unit/location. I personally got a lot out of it

I was command sponsored and a 68c and I spent 2011-2014 there and I loved it. I would go back on a heartbeat. I was stationed at 121 but I worked about 30 minutes away.

SGT (Join to see) you will do 2 FTX's In your year. The 121 is a CSH only in name. Other than the 2 FTX's you will work in the hospital. If you want experience as a 68c ask to work the ICU, you will learn a lot. While you are there embrace the culture and do as much with the BOSS and MWR program as you can. There is so much to do. Don't fall into the rut of drinking and hanging out in the barracks. Learn to make kimchi, take Tao kwon do, volunteer at an orphanage, take advantage of being in another country and make memories you can talk about for the rest of your life.
