If a Soldier passed their weigh-in but failed their record APFT, does he/she have to weigh-in again if taking another record APFT the following month?
Additionally, many confuse the verbiage of 30 days in FM 7-22 p5-36 as a regulation. It is only a Sample, commander's policy letter.

AR 600-9 requires one weigh-in every six months at a minimum. For ease of company administration, they are usually done within a week of an APFT, per 600-9. If that APFT is a record APFT, then the weigh-in is required within 7 days before or after the APFT. AR 350-1, Appendix G, para G-9, g. (3). requires the weigh-in with the record APFT. AR 600-9, para 3-4 dictates that it will be within 7 days of the APFT.

For the sake of time, I did not write the exact quote from the regulation. However, it does dictate that the weigh-in will be conducted WITHIN 7 days of the APFT. This means it can be anytime between 7 days before or after the APFT. Commanders can still choose to do them on the same day if they choose. Now, I do see the benefit in doing them apart and I encourage it, however, some commanders are lazy and do them the same day, which is totally legal.

You have to look at both. App G, AR 350-1 says a weigh-in is required for all record APFT's. AR 600-9 says that the weigh-in will happen within 7 days of the APFT, which means that it is required within 7 days (before or after) the APFT. It just takes experience in reading regulations SGT Caroline Slothour . Since regulations are written at different times, you sometimes have to review multiple regs to make sense of a situation. This is actually pretty simple.

None of this matters because you have to allow 90 days in between failed APFT and the next record APFT.

(1) The APFT provides an assessment of the physical readiness training program. Physical conditioning or training periods solely devoted toward meeting APFT requirements are highly discouraged.
(2) Commanders may administer the APFT as often as they wish; however, they must specify beforehand when the results are for record. AA and AGR Soldiers will take the APFT twice each calendar year. A minimum of 4 months will separate record tests. Soldiers that require make-up testing or re-testing for an APFT failure are exempt from the 4-month rule. The intent is for the Active Army and the AGR Soldiers to take a record APFT every 6 months. Mission requirements often prevent the even spacing of record tests. Therefore, commanders are encouraged to test Soldiers for record as close to the record test window as possible. Soldiers requiring make-up testing will be scheduled in
accordance with the unit Standard Operating Procedures. Soldiers requiring re-testing for an APFT failure will be scheduled as prescribed in paragraph G–9.m.(6) of this regulation.

will be retested no later than 90 days following the initial APFT failure. Reserve component Soldiers not on active duty and without a medical profile will be tested no later than 180 days following the initial APFT failure.
