Should the NSA's ability to collect Meta Data be reversed?

Now that we have been hit by terrorists.....should the NSA be given the ability to collect meta data once again?

How is it that the French authorities were able to 'follow the trail' and make hundreds of arrests and confiscate ordnance so quickly after the Paris massacre, and assist Belgium in conducting their own follow-up investigations and raids--and they don't have the NSA? Or do they profile?

CPO Andy Carrillo, MS That right there is the $1,000,000 question. I'm sure they have a more "hands on" approach. I'm sure we will never know(OPSEC and all). But apparently it works.
IMO we're more concerned with PC than to take the gloves off, but then again who knows what lurks in the dark.

SFC (Join to see) - I mean, the French? C'mon, there were videos of their unarmed gendarmes being gunned down in the streets with the coup de grace on world television. Perhaps they wised up more quickly than oui?

The French Intel agency (DGSI) had profiled thousands of names under "S" reports. Those reports aim at "pointing out" someone that may cause serious damage to the State.
In terms of due process, you can't really do a arrest based on a "fiche S".
When Francois Hollande proclaimed the State of Emergency, later approved by congress, well, that gave more "freedom" to investigators.
At least for the past four years, all terrorist that had planned/committed terror attacks (including Charlie Hedo's, Ozar Hatorah's, etc) had been perpetrated by individuals that were all known by the police, under "S" reports. However, those "profiles" weren't a legally reasonable ground to arrest them before their acts.
Problem isn't getting names, it's have a legal way to prosecute them prior of their attacks that often result in their death. We all know that you can't take a dead guy to court..

Won't do much good. Yes they may get SOME valuable Intel, but thanks to the media everyone knows about it. They'll just change their TTP's.
