A valid question came up when discussing the assignment of Women to Combat Arms units. Can they simply be reassigned for failing to qualify for the 11B ( or USMC 03) MOS?
My personal experience is that the only way out of Infantry training was to graduate or be discharged for medical reasons or misconduct. Has anyone had any experience with Infantry School Failures being assigned to another MOS? What were the reasons?

Hopefully any failures would get the opportunity to train in another MOS where they can still be of use to the military and not throw away all that time and effort. The infantry isn't for everybody, but that doesn't mean they can't still find a useful niche to serve in.

You are right 1SG. Back in ancient history I saw a number of people who had washed out in one MOS become very good soldiers doing something else.

Anyone who fails any MOS training regardless of gender can be reassigned for another MOS at the discretion of "needs of the service". The integration of women in Combat Arms doesn't really change anything in that regard. If they day you fail Infantry training the Army happens to need left handed mechanics, congrats, you're going to Mechanic School. If that day they needed cooks, you'll be headed to cook school. Staying and reattempting training is always possible (it's cheaper than sending someone to another MOS school) but it's always at the discretion of the service.

Thanks, I know of this policy, I am trying to get input from those who have seen what happens to those who specifally failed Infantry training. As a side note the Marines REQUIRE all Males to complete an abreviated version of Infantry training (MCT) after Boot Camp before going to their MOS Schools. MCT failures are recycled or discharged. In my entire career I never met a single Marine who failed Infantry School and was assigned aNOTHER mos.

If they are brand new Soldiers (new enlistees) and wash out of training the ones I have seen have been discharged. It's a uncharacterized discharge.

Yes. The only ones I've seen are the brand new Soldiers.

Kind of dated, but if a Active Duty Soldier went thru a reclass(new MOS), and washed out they went back to their original MOS. So if a Truck Driver went thru Infantry training, but didn't make it they'd go back to being a Truck Driver.
