Does certifying a crew for CRG gunnery only to make the crew green in the eyes of the battery make any sense? The crew will still be red in the Battalions eyes due to NMC equipment. Any comments? I have 3 weeks, well 2 since there is no training during Army week, to train 2 brand new guys and 1 semi-new guy just given to me by my command.

I spent 4.5yrs with 5-52 ADA as their S6 NCOIC. I understand the short notices from higher to get your CRG teams green. The biggest thing to understand in my eyes and experience with patriot is that if your CRG crews are red you deadline the BN as a whole. We're all a piece of the bigger pie and you running the CRG section have one of the bigger pieces because if the batteries can't communicate with the ICC they can't do their job effectively. Run with what you got and motivate your Soldiers to do their absolute best because in the end those batteries NEED you to help them to keep the skies clear. You convey that to your Soldiers to emphasize the importance of their jobs and you'll be surprised with the results. Hopefully that was helpful in some way.

I know some very capable NCO's and Soldiers who would be willing to work on CRG's...We're here to support HHB just as well as the line units with their Radars...If they're broke get with your systems guys have them job them out to my shop. We'd be more than happy to come look at them.

I understand what you're saying. I can definitely understand the frustration of having to train someone up that fast and get them to certify. I also do agree that there needs to be more longevity with crews in order to build a cohesive team for whatever equipment you are certifying on.
I don't think that you are whining. No one likes to fail. Especially NCO's. I would just go out their and train them to the best of your ability and try to get them all certified in the short amount of time you have then you can get more in depth training with them as time goes on. I was just simply offering our support for your maintenance concerns. I live for maintenance! Let me know if y'all need anything or if there is something your system guys need help with.

Another thing that you have to remember is that the evaluators for CRG are coming down from Korea. They will only be here for 1 week. So we are kinda at their mercy when it comes to the timelines for HHB certifications. I hope that explains the 'urgency'.
On a side note: the crews should be training consitantly to ensure they are proficient at MO&E. If they are not, then it is up to the first line leaders to approach the platoon leader with their concerns. I am sure the unit will gladly add this training to the schedule as it directly supports the unit METL.

As most people know, CRG drills every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons when our equipment is working. I have had 3 guys come on crews within the last month, 2 last week. Within the last month we have had some issues with equipment which prevented drilling. With that being said, we did have TC running through dry runs. So I am very confident in my normal guys, just a little hesitant on the 2 very new guys.

SSG Chandler, this leads me to ask if the CRGs are being properly reported as being NMC. I dont have access to the current outspot report, but if the equipment is not being properly reported, then the maintenance support you need may not be getting allocated. This is something I can look into on Monday, or CW3 Dean can probably look at it this weekend.
Keep in mind that the EMMO shop is here to support you! Everyone wants to look at us as the enemy, but if you come in and ask us for help, trust me, we WILL break our backs to assist in anyway possible.

I did it for 3 yes there. Same thing. Army week problem and all. It is simple. Shut up SSG. Get your soldiers trained. Keep your comments away from your soldiers, get the damn slides green and move out. Your job is not to re-invent this MOS. OKINAWA is unique, I'll give you that but don't baby these soldiers. 2 days and they should certify. They are U.S. Soldiers. Best of the best remember that ND get to work. Aloha
