Being here at NTC I am seeing a some units that are trying to go back to "old school" training and some that are still stuck on the whole FOB operation.

There definitely is a transition away from "Deployment Training." My unit has been doing COMET Preparation, PHA and a ton of administrative tasks; instead of going to the field and shooting or weapons qualification. I believe once we get into another major war, we will transition back into a "warfighter" training mode.

Well as the Army looks to "reset" from the wartime missions that it has executed for the last 13 years, you will once again train to the unit's METL. Unit's will once again place a priority on such things as: gunnery (for those with combat vehicles) as opposed conducting dismounted patrolling, unless that is a METL task; maneuvering their unit's from the PLT level up; reporting procedures ..in essence all those tasks that may have been pushed to the side for the sake of the particular mission in Iraq or Afghanistan will once again be brought to the forefront.

Old school? Are horses, catapults and crossbows being fielded now?

Sad thing for I have seen the Soldiers then took better care of the equipment compared to now. Units use to work late to make sure their paceing items where FMC and now all Soldiers care about is their cell phone and when they are getting off work.
