Veterans and Active Duty Members what is the best advice WE can give our newest and brightest Leaders in (5) words or less?
Here is mine: BE TRUE TO YOURSELF!
We have a lot of great veteran senior leaders, current active duty members, and wise individuals on RallyPoint, so we should be able to put together a very long list of great words of wisdom for our future leaders!

When I left active duty in 1996, I carried that with me into my first civilian management position. By doing that, I earned the respect of the union shop stewards and other employees. I was surprised to see how many other managers failed to do that consistently. I believe it was one of the things that allowed me to get promoted 7 months later over managers with more seniority.

Our current drive to be politically correct in everything is not good for readiness, and it only makes us weaker in some sort of attempt to appease a bunch of noisy special interest groups. We are lowering our standards in a push to be seen as not discriminating against females and trying to give them more career opportunities. Lowering the standards means that we will have many more weaker soldiers on the battlefield and that is going to get soldiers killed. It will result in more soldiers getting captured and tortured. More soldiers being paraded in terrorist videos and getting decapitated.
We are being forced to accept people with very questionable sexual standards of conduct in an effort to be seen as 'inclusive'. This will create lots of problems on the battlefield. It will likely result in some 'friendly fire' casualties. It will likely result in the increased transmission of STDs. We will also probably lose some good soldiers because they will not want to fight alongside people that they consider to be sexual perverts. Some of these soldiers will claim to be transgender and want to use bathrooms and showers of the opposite sex. They will claim that this is their right, but what about the rights of the other solders to not be forced to shower with these sexually confused individuals? All of this will just create more turmoil in an already tumultuous environment.
Our military should not be used as some sort of social experiment or political battleground. Keep that stuff out of the armed services. The vast majority of female soldiers cannot pass the same set of standards that we expect of male soldiers. Those standards are meant to keep us ready and to help ensure the soldier has the best chance at survival in combat. Putting women in these high stress situations, both mentally and physically, only puts them in greater danger of injury, death, or capture, and endangers the soldiers around them and jeopardizes the accomplishment of the mission.
One of our duties as men is to protect women and trying to be politically correct is only letting them down. Take a look at some of our recent wars. WWII, the Korean War, and the Viet Nam War. Our opponents do not adhere to the Geneva Convention when it comes to the protection and treatment of prisoners of war. If we had instituted a draft and had women serving right alongside the men in combat in those wars, the women prisoners would have suffered much more than the few incidents of sexual harassment and rape that they experience today. The treatment of women at the hands of our enemies would have been brutal. We are not trying to limit the career advancement of women by keeping them out of combat positions. We are not trying to keep the best assignments for ourselves. We are trying to protect the women. Take a look at Youtube and it's hard not to find videos of women doing stupid things as they try to have fun (and don't seem to have the common sense to stay out of harms way.) War is not fun. We are just trying to protect the women from much worse fates at the hands of brutal regimes that would torture and rape women relentlessly.
