Would you like to be able to take a few years sabbatical from the military? There's a program for that!!

This is a topic that has generated a lot of discussion. Generally from Navy and Air Force channels. This is the first I had actually heard of the Army even CONSIDERING such a thing. You need to be a member of MilSuite to follow the link directly, but should be able to get the Army Directive through normal means.

Personally, I believe Adm Akbar's advice applies.
----
ARMY DIRECTIVE 2014-07 (ARMY CAREER INTERMISSION PILOT PROGRAM), 9 MAY 14. This AD provides policy for the implementation of the CIPP. The CIPP provides a one-time temporary transition from active duty in the RA or USAR AGR Program to the Individual Ready Reserve to allow Soldiers to pursue personal or professional growth while providing a mechanism for their seamless return to active duty. See the AD for more information. https://www.milsuite.mil/book/docs/DOC-148497

EDIT: This link should work for all http://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/pdf/ad2014_07.pdf

Looks like an EXTREMELY competitive program. Only 20 enlisted and 20 commissioned (total from all components). Enlisted limited to SGT and SSG only. Officers YG 99-14. Would be a great opportunity if selected.

Here is a direct link that should be available to everyone.
