I was selected for promotion at the end of October and have been waiting for orders for seemingly forever. I was directed improperly and first but finally, though my own actions, able to get everything straight. As a reservist, we are not numbered but I am curious as to the length everyone has experienced... I am at 4.5 months.

CPT Wilmoth...
1. If you are a TPU (Troop Program Unit) officer, check with your servicing Regional Readiness Command. The last time I looked promotion in the is tied to you finding a paid billet and getting assigned there. Upon assignment you fully eligible for promotion.
2. As a TPU officer you have three years from the publication of the board results to do this. If you can not accomplish this you need to go into the IRR for promotion. Recommend you transfer to the IRR six months prior to the deadline and once in the IRR you need to contact HRC OPMD and ask for the servicing IRR reprehensive to assist.
3. Tennant's First Rule - Always consult the regulations - in this case AR 600-8-9 at link http://www.apd.army.mil/ProductMaps/Administrative/ArmyRegulation.aspx

Sir, You must be slotted in a valid O-4 position on the UMR and not be double slotted. The Unit Manning Report can will show this information, check with your HR NCO.

My last promotion, I waited 7 months. They claimed it was a system error... no backdating, no back pay... yeah, this sweet well-oiled system.

Your cynicism is normal....speaking as an "old UA"....delays start with the UA and then have a habit of snowballing. That is why I advised my troops to follow-up follow-up and then follow-up again....with polite persistence. The back pay issue bothers me....I seem to remember (way back in the 80's) there was a method of redress but I have no way to verify. Remember Tennant's Rule #1....always refer to the regulation. Charley Mike.

LTC Thomas Tennant - Thanks Sir... in my particular case, yeah we do not have a UA... haven't had one for a few years. I did follow-up and I did push it, but when you have a portion of the command that only looks after their own career - then this is what will happen.
