MOPP gear.
When you need it, you really need it. But when we need it, you know we won't have it.

1SG (Join to see) - We used MOPP gear for rapid weight loss --usually prior to the next-day's liberty "smoker." But, they did away with smokers. Thus, I might have to agree with you.

1SG (Join to see) , when my unit deployed to Iraq, we broke up into teams at different locations in the country. We were instructed to take our MOPP suits with us, but we had to leave our masks behind with the HQ element that was at COB Adder at Talil. I was down in Basra. Such a brilliant idea that was.

1SG (Join to see) - I thought so. Entire time in country, when ever I would open my tuff box and see the suit, I would just shake my head.

This is going back a ways, shelter half with pegs and poles, the tin mess kit, wool over garments aka "The Bear Suit", and the big rubber "Mickey Mouse" boots.

There's several items I can think of.

1. The leather glove shells with their crappy inserts.

2. The thin sleeping bag. It's supposedly good to 30 degrees. I was borderline miserable in 45 degree weather.

3. The IOTV. What good is body armor to Infantryman when he can't shoulder his rifle?
