SGT (Join to see) is spot on as a start. These programs including TAP are long on the what's and short on the how's. I filled in the gap by running a transition mentoring program while I was doing my Civil Service job, especially if they were looking for Fed work. I would hope some of the veteran owned transition NFP outfits would provide similar support. Transitioning can be a very lonely road. Having a good wing man/woman helps a lot.

CAPT Kevin B. - Sir, you hit the nail on the head. I went through ACAP when I retired from the Army. They were extremely long on the whats and very short on the hows. I'll give you an example. We went through a few days of "how to write a resume". Worthless. They told us what a good resume should have and what format it should be, but nobody sat down with any of us and looked at our resume, or helped us translate military experience into civilian terminology. Nobody critiqued our initial resume efforts. Nobody told us what employers looked for in our resume. Nobody explained to us about keywords, automatic resume scanning programs, or current HR trends, like the two-page limit. I had to learn everything on my own, and it took a year to get it right.

There are transition courses on the TGPS site and JKO. Are you looking for something in specific ?
