I have an exceptionally supportive wife who is very understanding when it comes to military duties in my current position as a Reservist. Unfortunately I am pursuing a commission and she does not want to return to Active Duty because she does not want to move. How do you juggle your desire to serve with your commitment to your family?

The best answer I have for you is to communicate. When there are major decisions, sit down and weigh the pros with the cons. Find out what is best for the family and for the future of the family. Openly communicate with each other about goals you each have for the family and how you can achieve those goals. Sometimes it is difficult to discuss those choices because they are on the spot decisions. At those times you just hope they can understand that it comes with being in the service. In the end, it is what is best for your family and for their future.

I don't think there's a text book answer...just take understanding (on both sides) and real conversations about each others needs, wants, and goals. If the goals aren't lining up, you may need to find new goals (or dare I say...)

My wife understands what I want out of my military career and she supportive (for the most part). When I have time off, I have to dedicate a lot of that time to her and what she wants.
