Using my CAC to log on has become second nature for me, so I see no problem and only benefits. It is only when the CAC card has expired or lost that the CAC protocols are a real pain. I have yet to meet anyone who had to reestablish their access with a new card who hasn't had problems getting their work product off of the cloud or assigned computer. However, in the off chance I am surrounded by the digitally challenged, I would like to hear your "CAC Card Stories."

They are fragile, but very effective. I know of no alternative that offers as many uses for the same total cost of use. I think we could improve the way we issue and manage them and maybe invest money into an improved version. not so much on features but improving its ability to withstand non-typical environments.

Is it something to do with the heat and sand? Or was it the move and shoot maneuvering? Or all of the above?

LTC Thomas Tennant - All of the above. Plastic bag I had it in got dust in it and the abrasion started immediately.

The only real issue I experienced was damage to the bar code and strip on the back which interfered with the ability to use it in a reader. You are correct regarding the frustrations that come with reestablishing access on a new card. But they are efficient!
