I have the E-7 board coming this September what regulations are there for repromoted E-6s? That has time in grade more than 3 years?

If your an E6 with enough time in for E7 and you don't know the regulation for promotions and reductions maybe you need to wait a little longer....

CSM Michael Chavaree - Well said 1SG. Now with smart phones and google it just take time and effort to find the answer. I get it that this is a forum is to help each other out, but some troops just want to be given the answer with out an effort for them in doing the research.

SFC (Join to see) - I feel they were based on opinion. He never said whether he did the research or not , but his question was unique. Nothing in the regulation states about promoted, demoted and then re promoted. Perhaps he should have stated in his question that he had already researched it and was looking for clarification. But simply stating that because he doesn't know the answer he shouldn't be promoted is short. We don't know his career, his potential or his ability to lead based on one question. At least tell him what reg to look at. Piip if your subordinate had read the regulation and came to you asking this question, and you know his capability would you cast him off by saying you are not ready, or would you mentor him and make sure he understands what the reg states.

SFC (Join to see) - My sentiment exactly. He should have ask his Platoon Sgt or Plt Leader for assistance. Call your S-1 for guidance, or as someone said earlier just GOOGLE it. Again as we are or were all leaders mentor him, that way one day he will do the same for his subordinate soldiers.

Please, what is: "a repromoted E-6"? Were you previously reduced in grade for some malfeasance? Did you voluntarily surrender a pay grade for being caught at some offense not quite NJP level?

Are you referring to AR 600-8-19, Enlisted Promotions and Reductions?

I think so my question is I have time in grade just didn't know if the new regulations would keep me out of the running for the 7 board after I finish my SLC.

SLC requirement for promotion to SFC does not take effect until June. If you have to wait until September to board, then you will need SLC to be considered. I hope you are already slotted for a course. They are getting crowded quickly.

1SG (Join to see) - Just a slight correction, if not promoted by June when STEP takes effect. You will still be considered and if selected must complete SLC before being pinned. 18 months after selection selected SSGs will be dropped from the list

That's what I get for just reading the summary off of Armytimes. I am glad the Army is allowing for the back log at NCOES
