In conversation my daughter's friend who is 11 said she wants to be the first female Navy Seal. I told her that was an excellent goal to have as it was challenging, very forward thinking with females and the military but added its very difficult as 80% of the men that attempt to become seals don't. Her response I thought was outstanding and coming from a Seal mindset, "Yeah but 20% make it."

I would tell her to excel in academics and athletics in her school, and to strive to be the best in her school district (or beyond) in both. Develop the habits that brings her to excellence, and that will set her up for success no matter what she does. If she can't do that, she would likely not have the base needed to achieve such a milestone.

Though I would also add that since she is only 11, another female will probably beat her to it, but you can't go wrong by excelling in academics and athletics. She needs to be the best in everything she competes in, and to make that a habit. Also learn from failures along the way, as those will come.

endurance mentally and physically, to be able to do what normal people would run away from, to make the sacrifice, in her own life, sf/seals is not easy, had a buddy of mine tap out navy seal he would have made it but got to thinking about wife and family, some serious descisions

SPC David S. - The Major makes an excellent point regarding academics. In the face of their physical accomplishments, it's not well-known that SEAL's have to make complex dive calculations, among other things that don't get the limelight. A lot of candidates drop at that stage because they can't do the calcs.

Hook her up with the requirements to become a SEAL,since that provides a minimum goal to strive toward.

Equally importantly, help with the mindset. Find her movies that show what it is to have to make sacrifices "for the exigency of the service". While those are not the same as being there, they are the closest a civilian, as opposed to a SM or a vet, can get. Independence Day, not for the action, but for the losses suffered; Terminator 2, for the nightmare where Los Angeles gets nuked, etc. Not a horror campaign, but education that being a warrior has consequences. Hand in hand with that, discussions about what being an Operator is.

If you can swing it, get her in contact with a SOComm penpal that is honest, yet positive. I realize that this is a US centric discussion, but Israel's Massad would be an alternative since they have female personnel.

Pastor RW Burke US Nave 1977-1988:
Awesome young lady who has a bright future ahead of her, I've known the few SEAL'S in my time in the Navy and they were the best of the best. Everything the MAJ Yinon said is right on course and MSG Cafaro hit the nail on the head, all the men I new told me the same thing when we talked about BUDS trained and the 20% who made it like mentioned, I asked them what was the difference between you and the 80% Rob 'P' answered. He said we the that I won't quit attitude "No matter what, No matter what, No matter what, we were gonna complete the task. He called it the heart of a SEAL. I wish you the best and remember this "The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday."

I love her response! And, at only 11, no less! I would tell her, "to always believe in herself, because with a positive attitude, she will overcome all obstacles to becoming whatever she desires. "

Pray, because there are many hard charging young ladies who have the same goal,so she better pray none of them make it before she gets her shot.
Train for it anyway, even if she isn't the first she can show up, kick the door off the hinges and go after the all-time records in each and every event.
Last of all, every time she gets close to her goals move the bar a little higher!
