Cert runs why does it seem if the unit is just trying to impress highers. If the cert isn't a army requirement but just a unit one should it be always pass or fail and trouble for those who can't pass

COL (Join to see) Sir I'm surprised you asked it first. My question refers to Corp certs like ruck marches and runs how should it be enforced for those who fail even if they try the best they can but medical issues cause problems, as well as the sometimes bad medical not trying to find out exactly what the issue is that's causing it and using general mini fixes.

SFC (Join to see) certifaction run. For instance 18th airborne Corp has a 4 mile certification run that has to be done. Those who fail are put on extra pt

I think he's talking about the wacky stuff XVIII Corps does with "Airborne Standards". When I was with 14th CSH (who fell under 44th MED, who fell under XVIII) the unit had to "certify" we were "combat ready" by doing a 4 mile run in under 36mins and a 12 mile ruck in 4hrs. In reality, it really didn't mean anything except a nice OER bullet for your commander.

The chain of command can always add to the regs, they just can't take away. Failing a ruck march or run that is a local requirement usually results in extra training, not real punishment. Extra training is only going to help you and make you a better soldier, even if it's not an experience you enjoy.

SSG (Join to see) my question falls under if the unit decided to press for ucmj because of multiple failures on one person but have others who do the same and those are let off the hook

I've never seen anyone receive UCMJ for failing to meet local unit objectives. It sounds like some over zealous leadership is trying to scare someone into putting forth some additional effort to meet local standards. You still want to do your best to meet all requirements, even local ones that might seem unnecessary. It doesn't have to make sense, it just has to be legal and these sorts of local requirements are perfectly legal.

While "Certification Runs" like the one you mentioned in the 18th Airborne Corps may not be an Army Requirement, unit commanders have the latitude to determine additional methods of measuring their unit's overall fitness and effectiveness.

Remedial PT is no more a punishment than Remedial Training when you fail to zero at the range. It's just making sure you receive the additional training required to meet the standard, albeit local standard, but standard none the less.
