Very interesting article in the NY Times about the true and total cost of war. I'm usually for any market based mechanism that assigns a more accurate price to a given outcome or activity, such as war, pollution, obesity, etc.

This one has to do with war.

I'm not even sure we'll ever know what the true cost of these wars are. If you calculate the increased VA payments we'll make, the spouses who will get paid for the rest of their lives, the pressure on VA hospitals and Army hospitals treating our wounded for the next 70-80 years, I'm sure the true cost is astronomical.

Finally got around to reading the article and found it quite interesting to say the least. Never heard any reaction to the author's suggestions I imagine. Guess is the premiums would be to high for even the government to afford out of pocket or otherwise.
