I'm ready to drop my rasp packet however, being a non "combat" deployed E5 11C/11B I wanted to know if anyone could tell me if I would be given a leadership position as I got to the unit or if I would be under another 5. Been in a squad leader position since I was a PFC. I'm making this a career and I need a combat deployment, without crossing opsec is the unit still deploying? I got Ranger School here on July 20 class 09-14. Just looking for some professional help as I take my next step.

If you are a performer, then you will be recognized as so in the regiment and be put in those positions they feel you can do well in. I can tell you, going from the 82nd to the 75th is still a steep learning curve especially for our squad leaders, platoon sergeants and young officers.

If you want a career enhancement, get there and do your best. The rest will be history and you wont be worrying about taking care of your career, because it will take care of itself!

RLTW!

You're more than likely going to fall under another E-5. But this shouldn't bother you! You will learn ALOT from another peer that has been in the regiment for a while and deployed with them. Its nothing to be ashamed of! Its not a step down! Do you already have orders to the regiment? Keep me updated man...I know a few fellers I can put you in contact with that would be great benefit!

Thank you for the response. I see your point of view and can honestly say I didn't think about it from that perspective. Just like anything you have to do your time before you can progress, no worries there. No I don't have orders yet. My packet is filled out but I'm waiting to send it until after Ranger school is over. I'm looking forward to all of this, thanks for the new outlook!

SSG (Join to see) - I know its kind of a "personal hit" being higher ranked but honestly some of the best advice and training I've had was from lower enlisted fellas. It's kind of like an LT. They still listen to their NCO's and Privates, because they know they can learn a great deal from them.

Most likely you'll start out under another experienced SGT but once you are trained up and experienced you will move into those positions as well as work on that SSG goal so you will be in even better leader positions. Good luck Brother. Rangers Lead The Way
