Marine hand to hand combat - how does it work?

I've heard its one of the most revered fighting techniques in the world. It was implemented after I got out. I was in martial arts before I enlisted (Aikido, Tae Kwan Do, Kenpo) and thought hand to hand was pretty pathetic when I was going through it. Can those of you in it now give me some feedback on it.

You figure you're learning a system. By glean from the techniques, but have a base martial art. Mine is judo and jujitsu. All the Budo arts fit together.
