I believe you should take the necessary steps to ensure your security clearance is up to date. You never know when an opening will accure for your skills set when a security clearance is needed.

I keep mine up to date...unfortunately, the TS SCI I had when I worked federal civilian was not kept up to date because my military position isn't authorized to TS, only Secret...still have the Secret that was updated last year so that's good

1SG Everly. The security clearance may be helpful in positions where the employer wishes to start immediately and/or save some money on the clearance process. In the end, the best personal fit for the job at hand is far more important. Sandy

The cost of processing a candidate for a clearance is routinely absorbed by the client...the government agency. So it's not really a cost issue for the hiring company. It is however, an "availability" issue. So, those with an active clearance are more readily able to be hired.
