We learn a lot of stuff in the military and some of it seems like if could be either fun, cool or just a simple life hack that makes our lives a little easier. If you have, what military skills have you've taught to civilians.

My daughter on the rope learning to climb and rappel.

More of a mindset than a skill I guess. Similar to what SGM Erik Marquez mentioned. A confidence to overcome, a multipath approach to problem solving. Always, internally reject the first "no". The bureaucrat who said "no" is just doing their job. There is always an exception to the rule, or someone who can rescind it.

Absolutely!! Most importantly, how to survive 17 months in field by camping with something similar to c-rats, not MRIs. Taught family how to clean weapons and sing cadence. But most importantly, Respect. Oh and I still make my bed with military corners!

Keep an eye on your surroundings (situation Awareness) is the big one I try to teach my family. It will get your far and hopefully keep you out of trouble for the most part.

Yes we live outside of Chicago and go downtown a lot - military calls it situation awareness - here in the city its called street smarts. Something I've tried to teach is to look for things that are out of place. Daughter found a fresh 9mm casing while walking around one day. To her that meant start scanning for signs of trouble and to look at what people are doing with their hands.
