I have a question on promotion and slotting?

I have a 2 part question,

part 1, I recently made the by name list for Sergeant DOR 1Apr2017 does this mean that I will be getting promoted I am automatically promotable due to my tis and tig according to my unit as I have not attended a promotion board but have blc.

part 2, my unit does not have any available 20 level slots for my MOS (91B). Will they send me to a different unit where a slot is available or place in a different slot? I am assigned to an HHC so I am sure they have non mechanic 20 slots.

SPC Erwin,
Congrats and just like the rest of the NCO's stated, your position is going to depend on the Company. If they move you to a position to support your rank and MOS that would be awesome, but if not continue to learn as a new NCO from your seniors and everything will take it place. I know some fellow battles that are Senior NCO's that at one point was working one rank down, but that did not stop them from continuing to be professional and carry themselves as such. Congrats and good luck.

Thank you SSG, I try to take everything as a learning opportunity, you never know what you'll learn after all.

If your name is on the "By Name List" then yes, you are promoted.

As for slotting, this is important. Lots of units do not use slotting correctly. I've seen units where people are just thrown into open slots regardless of their MOS and rank. Then they wonder why Big Army doesn't send them the people they need. If there are no slots for your MOS and rank, yes you can be placed in a 1O level slot. However, this does not look good for you as a NCO, because you are working below your rank. You can be erroneously slotted in something like "Excess Personnel" which then signals Big Army that you need to be sent to another unit that has open slots for you. Slotting is also important because that duty title is what will go on your NCOER, and that is how you will be rated. So visit your BN S-1 and talk to them about properly slotting you.

Thank you SSG, I was informed by my squad leader that I will probably be placed in a S-shop.

You have to have gone to a Promotion Board to get promoted to E5, with BLC and make points. CLI is typically for specific MOS but, depends on your command/unit.

There are SPC who have gone to BLC, made points but never went to the board so they are not automatically promoted.

If they need an NCO once you are promoted and you have the skills, or even if its just in a supervisory position, then they can move you at the CDR discretion.

Unless you are hard slotted during a shifting sands and this involves getting favorably chosen in slots available before the new UIC kicks off. I went to MOSQ and then I went to BLC and was previously slotted. Never went to a board and Im promotable just like that. Now waiting on state to action that.
