The easiest step is to stop negative press with things like trying to recoup bonuses from Soldiers who fulfilled their contracts and public officials trying to convince everyone on Earth and the Romulans that every Veteran has PTSD. From there we make the benefits of service enticing compared to the civilian sector. This can be done with a fair look at compensation comparisons, benefits cost comparisons, and providing training and certification that is recognized by the civilian sector as part of our initial entry training.

I think a great step for recruiting would be for professional licensing recognition for MOS training. Think of the uptick this would bring to all of the medical fields. Too many medics & corpsmen are left out of their professional certifications.

The Over weight and Tattooed people can Be Dealt with... the Stoners Have a medical Problem that may not be Solvable... depending on the tattoos ... No Gang related tattoos and Supremacist tattoos...
The over weight People can be handled By Basic training the amount food and the PT will cut them down to size and it make a cycle or 2 extra but it can be remedied... and if they cant get down after 3 Cycles in Basic they have a real problem ...
Dopers have a possible mental and Medical Problem that will be more difficult to work with ...and probably an addiction that will be difficult to break and prevent from returning...

I drink booze. As a matter of fact, I'm having a Bloody Mary right now (it's 1700 here). I have an addiction. I'm addicted to bloody mary's, clothes, running shoes and strangely enough, Italian food.

Addictive personalities have such an affinity for substance abuse that they can ruin their respective military potential. Look at the multitudes that became addicted to opiates after their medical introduction in the last years of the 19th Century. Germany was overran with dopers after the Great War, including Goering, but drug addicts eventually quit or died. This is the same outcome into the 21st Century. The military will use young people for as long as they are clean but after addiction sets in, bad behavior will cause dismissal. It is incredible that in our "advanced" culture, we are legalizing clearly addictive substances for the masses. This scenario will certainly decrease the recruiting pool of eligible young people.

SSgt Robert Marx - Quite a coincidence that your last name is 'MARX' and you believe government is responsible for governing for the masses. lol. Joking aside, I live in Germany and it's the largest GDP in Europe. I know plenty of "clean" people who are less than reputable. Cannibus was considered the gateway drug for many years, but in my opinion, people are people and government should serve as a voice for the People, not the mind.
