There has been lots of media coverage in the past few months on the problems within the VA medical systems. Many Vets I have talked with hate going to the VA because of the long delays experienced. Well what if we just do away with the VA Hospitals all together and use the funding for them to agument existing medical plans? This would allow people to go to whatever treatment facility they need and get the care they desire in a timely mannor.

Yes, or I would be dead right now. The VA Medical center in Portland, OR literally saved my life in February of this year. I would honestly let a VA doctor treat me before I would a civilian. While the system is flawed it is salvageable. Shutting it down only puts more veterans out there scrambling for medical care and the money to pay for treatment.

System may be flawed, but how many times in the pass have we heard the horrors about civilian hospitals!!!!!!  I am grateful of the care I have had so far. 3 successful surgeries between November and May, besides all the other care I have had.

MSG John Wirts I caution you about taking the advice of the regional VA support people when they make claims like that. In Phoenix, I was told the same thing. The regional guys are filling in for claims reps and they aren't always on the ball. Who is advocating for your claim? Is it the VFW or AM Legion or another service organization?

SFC Chris Smith It isn't for me. It is for my girlfriend who does that CHCBP program to extend Tricare bennies after you are divorced from a service member. Thanks for looking out for a brother. Well done!

I have worked with Amvets, and a Alameda County Social Services Agency, Veterans Representative. We send the packet off and hear NOTHING for a long time, then it is returned denied with no explanation. The next thing i see or hear in the news is how the VA has reduced its backlog to just under so many months. Guess what my backlog claim is denied so it does not count against them!

While i have also heard about issues with VA clinics/hospitals in certain areas, i find that our VA Hospital and clinics here in the San Diego area are excellent. I have had nothing but excellent care here and by and large i don't hear any complaints from anybody. we are fortunate that appointment wait times are generally fairly short (generally a week or so).

I still think the answer is to privatize the entire VHA system. Private corporations have been successfully managing large numbers of hospitals and medical centers efficiently (and at a much lower cost) for decades. Just another example of the government not being able to administer a program efficiently.
I don't think shutting all of these clinics and hospitals down is the answer. My vote is for privatization.

MSG Wade Huffman That is what I have believed all along myself. I believe it would be a much more effect solution to the problems of the VA healthcare system. I also think your right about not shutting down the hospitals and clinics just turn them over.

The only problem we are now facing universal VA, only it's called Obamacare, and it will and already is having the same problems.
