Anyone else scan selection lists for people you know and scratch your head at some of the results?

Every time a list comes out (promotion, school selection, command/command sergeant major, etc) I look through to see who I know. I love seeing people I know that I think should be on the list, and enjoy congratulating them. Of course there are those I don't see on the list that I think should have made it, and I wonder why. What is most puzzling to me are those I know personally, who made the list, but in my opinion should not have.
I struggle between being happy for them, and wondering what in the world they did I don't know about to convince the board to select them. Was my experience with them an anomaly, or were they just able to spotlight their way past the selection process? I'm sure this is also prevalent at local selection boards. I always hope that the Army gets it right, but I often have questions!

Your thoughts?

Sir, outstanding question although I'm surprised no one else has responded yet. I know this is a touchy subject for many, at least the enlisted side. I used to scan the promotion lists to see if anyone I knew made the list. I did so from the SGM lists down to the SGT list. Like you, I was happy for some and disappointed for others. I was also flabbergasted at how some could even make it into the senior levels.
