Step 1., buy two cups of black coffee. Step 2., take it to the office of a USAR and AD recruiters (preferably large station). Step 3., ask the same question and get a real time answer. Have a good one.

I assume that you are in the ARNG or USAR? Your first step is getting a conditional release approved on a DD368 in order to process for the active component. Second, as a Prior Service applicant, you must qualify for active duty vacancies as dictated by HRC Prior Service business rules. This may be an issue for you as an E6. Please see the link. http://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/current-and-prior-service/continue-serving/active-duty/prior-service-business-rules.html

SFC Fullerton,

I have switched to the IRR due to my previous unit not being able to go on assignments. (my former unit was non-deployable) I belong to HRC which does not require a conditional release.

The following are some notes from the recent SMA visit to FOB Bagram. These notes will be summarized in two emails: one detailing topics projected to be implemented within the next 12 months and the second, topics the SMA is currently exploring for revision.
- The National Defense Authority will be signed within the week. This document will effectively stop the drawdown of the Army immediately. Further, we will start growing the Army back up, expanding by 26,000 troops. Subsequently, in FY17, we will see retention goals increase by 9,000 for the year.

SSG (Join to see) - Correct, if you are in the Army IRR a DD368 conditional release is not required. You would only need to meet the vacancy requirements prescribed by HRC. Hard to say when and how those proposed changes will affect prior service applicants for active duty enlistments. As the CPT mentioned, an OCS or WO packet may be your best (or only) option as a Prior Service E6, provided you meet the requirements and are otherwise qualified. Good Luck

Very good advise. I took a demotion to go back to active duty 5 years ago. It was worth it but I had to wait to get my stripes back. I later did ocs.

Do you have education completed? Have you thought of commissioning? Do you wish to stay in signal or is active duty of any flavor your intent?

Sir,

I am 9 credits away from my Bachelors in Computer Science degree. I plan on finishing my schooling while in Afghanistan. I am also currently working on obtaining a Security + certificate so I can put in a Warrant Officer packet. I am currently studying it and will take the test in June. If I was able to go active duty I would like to switch to 25D or anywhere the Army might need me. I am pretty open to anything at the moment Sir.

Very Respectfully,

SSG Varnum, Jerry W.

SSG (Join to see) - The needs of the Army can be fickle. I suspect you may become a very experienced buck sergeant in the process. I wish you the very best.
