What's some of the situational questions you were asked during the promotion board? Or practice boards?

"One of your underage Soldiers calls you drunk at 2:30 am on a Friday night...how do you handle it and do you inform your Chain of Command?"
I gave my answer, not sure if was the answer I was looking for, but I passed the board.
I would pick them up, dust them off, but handle internally as they called me instead of driving drunk...let them know if it happened again I would not just destroy them in the pit, but their career would be over as well

That is the kind of question that is asked to determine how, as a potential leader, how you might take care of those under your charge. Quite simply: 1. Do you handle the situation yourself within your abilities to do so, or 2. Are you prone to pass situations off and up to the next higher. I think your answer was an indicator of what they were looking for.

Doctrinally (by regulation), situational questions are not to be asked at promotion boards. Make sure you are grounded in doctrine SGT (Join to see). Look at the promotion board MOI, all topics as well as the members & conduct of the board will be included in the MOI. Good luck & handle your business!

c. Conduct.
(1) Regular Army and U.S. Army Reserve Active Guard Reserve. Soldiers recommended for promotion by the unit
CDR will appear before the board. The board, utilizing a question and answer format, will test the preparedness of the
recommended Soldier to determine their potential to serve at the recommended rank. Hands-on tasks are not authorized.
Questions should focus on leadership, awareness of military programs, and knowledge of basic Soldiering and world affairs. The board should consider the Soldier’s overall personal appearance, bearing, self-confidence, oral expression and
conversational skills, and attitude when determining each Soldier’s potential to serve at the next level of NCO responsibility. The board president will ensure all board members are fully aware of the promotion methodology provided in
paragraph 1–1.
(2) U.S. Army Reserve (troop program units, Army Reserve Elements, and multi-component units). Soldiers do not
make a physical appearance before the board. The board will review Soldier records to determine their potential to serve
at the recommended rank

You can also expect questions about Soldiers with marital and finance issues, how to handle drug abuse, adverse counseling, etc... Know your Army programs in the event you have to speak about referring a Soldier to one (i.e. AER, EFMP, ACS, Military One Source, etc...)

I was promoted to SGT back in October but I'm looking at the SSG board personally I know I'm not quit there yet but I'm not going to let that stop me. What kind of thing are they looking at in a SSG promotion board?
