I'm working on a project relating to employee cafeteria meal choices and I'm curious about whether you think the DoD's "Go for Green" program works, if it helps make better food choices, if it's delicious and any other thoughts you have. I'm also curious if the marketing campaign they put out to publicize it was effective. Thanks all!

Here is the bottom line, and it's the same thing I tell my staff and the residents we prepare meals for. Fresher is better- limit sodium, there is a WORLD beyond salt and pepper, and there is a huge difference between seasoning and flavor. With all that said, listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs, drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest. Stay in balance.

Although not on active duty I have had several opportunities to eat at a messhall recently and seen young enlisted persons chosing well. I doubt that we would have chosen as well at that age

Reminds me of a Star Trek episode where Scotty from the original series asked a "Next Generation" shipmate how they could possibly be honest all the time. He then went on to say that "ya have to double everything, so you can get done in half the time and keep ya reputation as a miracle worker."

In spite of how older generations tend to disparage younger ones, we still tend to do things a little better each time.

Scott Vedder Delicious and DFAC food is not something I will ever associate.I was not aware that there was a marketing campaign for this, but when I go to the DFAC, I don't look at those signs anyway, I know what I want to eat and what's it's bad or worse for my health, so if I decide to go for the greasy stuff, I know what I have to do to get rid if it later.

SFC Dominguez it is obvious you have never eaten in my DFAC.:) Although it may not happen at times that delicious and DFAC meals coincide. For the most part I find that most cooks do try very hard to meet the standard and still put out a quality meal. I mean no disrespect to you ,your opinion, or rank. This is how I run my DFAC and the soldiers of my unit are happy with what comes forth at chowtime.

SFC (Join to see) My comment was based on my own limited experience, I am sure that there are DFAC's out there that are different to what I have experienced.

Understood SFC Dominguez. I was just saying that it's really up to the cooks and leadership as to the experience the warrior receives when going through a chow line as to taste , looks and cleanliness of personnel and areas of work
