Just do what you're told. When you get dropped push yourself to keep doing more and more exercises than the other people you're with. You'll see people act like they are struggling when the really aren't. Basic is all mental never quit and write to someone it gives you something to look forward to in the day. My reception DS told me something that I use even today. Break the day down into three parts, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mean cut it down and push to be like "just make it to breakfast" "Just a little more time till lunch" it will help you a lot. NEVER QUIT. Good luck man.

when you feel the desire to quit, push it harder, and you will find that yes, you can do it, you may experience bumps in the road but its how you deal with them and overcome, good luck

Taking the initiative to be in reasonably good shape is a big step! Also remember the DIs are there to do a job so don't take anything personal-Also by the way THANK YOU for your decision to serve your Country when many others your age do not step up to the plate!!

Thank you and and also you're welcome and thank you for your service, a big reason I enlisted is because of all the others that have given so much for our country and as long as I'm physically and mentally capable then it's only right I do the same to honor those who have served those that are and fight for the freedoms many other people MY age take for granted

As long as you're in shape, you're fine. I'd hope you quit any bad habits like smoking ahead of time because otherwise you'll be even more miserable. Basically don't stress it. Look up general knowledge and be ready to get screamed at. Good luck.

Cut out all tobacco use. If you drink caffeinated drinks, wean yourself off them now. The only things you will drink at Basic Training are water, milk, juice, powerade. As others have said, stay in shape and don't get into trouble. Good Luck!

Cpl Justin Goolsby - I flew from Seattle to MCRD San Diego for boot camp with another guy. Third day we are there, and that's just in forming platoon, this guy decides the Corps is not for him after all. So the genius goes to the 'moment-of-truth' meeting and tells them he has tried every drug known to man so he will be sent home. Graduation week, we just received our orders for our next duty station and are in formation in front of the command building when who do we see but this guy from Seattle. He is pushing a broom around and picking up tiny stones that are a blemish on our parade ground, whatever. Our DI points him out and explains that when you pull the stunt he pulled, you don't get sent right home. Oh no, they make to stick around to work off the cost of your uniforms, your plane ticket down and your bus ticket back and your meals etc. etc. etc. before they put you on the bus. DI said he had another month to go before he'd be leaving MCRD for home. That sucks! Especially since everyone treats him like a dirt bag the entire time.

Sgt Joseph Baker - That's honestly hilarious. I remember during that moment of truth point for me when like 5 or 6 seats just emptied. Never saw what happened to them, but now I know the end result. Don't know why you wouldn't stick it out, but it is what it is. Thanks for sharing that piece of insight.
