I was sent this from an Army buddy, how many would go back to the hot spots you came from to make a difference in doctrine?

I would love to go back if it meant making a real difference. But, with the political overtones and mistakes made by the current administration, there is no way I would risk my neck for a leader who disrespects the military the way Obama does. He has exacerbated the problems in the middle east and around the world, and he does not have a strategy for dealing with these problems. We have left Israel hanging in the wind in the middle east, when we should be doing everything we can to bolster the only democracy in the region. Forget building democracies in other countries, it was a failure to try in the first place. Until we get real leadership in the nation and work to secure our own borders to protect our citizens, I will only risk my neck to protect my family and my country from enemies within.

Yes be cautious, but also don't be a sheep. Silence is also the path to the slaughter house.

They can mess with me if they choose, won't be the first time and I am prepared for it again. At my age, I do not feel like I owe those in power today any respect. It is important for us as Americans to speak out when we see tyranny. If the founders had been careful, our great nation would have never been born. I see us losing the nation the founders fought and died to create, and thousands and thousands more have died to ensure she lives as a beacon of freedom for our children and grandchildren. I see that beacon dimming and it is because we have too many self serving types in DC. I will not be silent about what I view as destruction of this great nation.

Great dialogue. In answer to my own question, I do not think that I would go, for the simple matter that I do not like to waste my time if I do not perceive ROI.

I did a CALL mission in 2005 and absolutely found it rewarding. I would do it again if I had the time left before my MRD.

COL Jon Thompson do you have insights without disclosing opsec that you would be able to share so that we might have a better understanding of what you were tasked with and the results?

I had a free hand to travel around Afghanistan and talk to units. A lot of it was networking with people to get trans to different locations. I recorded the lessons and sent them back to CALL. CALL has an extensive library of publications based on what LNOs have collected over the years. I subsequent assignments, I ordered many of those to distribute to units preparing to go overseas. But like anything, it is up to the user to make full use of them. To me it was about capturing lessons that may help save a Soldier's life down the road.

Good for you. Some CALL LNOs do a great job.
