As today marks the 200th Birthday of our National Anthem, take a moment to reflect on it. If you have children or grandchildren, make sure they know the words and, more importantly, the meaning.

The Coast Guard sets a special buoy every year to mark the spot where the Star Spangled Banner was penned by Francis Scott Key. Here is an interesting video with the CO of the cutter that sets the buoy. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v= [login to see] 362679

It is CW2 Donald Loughrey ! I just watched a short story about that on Good Morning America. How ironic that we used a British song and just changed the words.

SFC Mark Merino, America is like the Romans. Everything everyone else does we take and make better... Let's just hope we do not end up like they did...

It can be argued that the Roman Empire fell due to their support of the dole system (welfare). Once they quit conquering territory and lead a life of defense (building walls and forts to secure borders) their treasury depleted more and more. They lacked funds for up keeping the roads and waterways and eventually succumbed to invading neighbors.....hmmm.
